On the anniversary days of October, it is common practice for us, the Soviet people, to sum up the magnificent results of what has been accomplished. Looking back on the path we have traveled, we gratefully recall with respect the ordinary selfless workers of the revolution, who, under the leadership of the Bolshevik Party, with their daily, everyday work, brought closer the hour of the victory of the Great October Revolution.
V. Kozhevnikov's novel “Dawn Towards”, which won the recognition of readers, is dedicated to these people, professional revolutionaries. The author wrote a book on childhood memories. He was born in Narym, where his parents were exiled for revolutionary activities, and in his childhood he witnessed the turbulent events of history. Kozhevnikov tells about these events and their participants recorded in the memory in the first person, on behalf of the boy Tima.
The book attracted me with the warmth and sincerity of the narration about the modest people for whom serving the people became the meaning and purpose of life. By sacrificing their personal well-being, constantly endangering themselves, they did party work. The novel covers such serious, fundamental questions as the ideological struggle of the Bolsheviks against the Mensheviks and Socialist Revolutionaries, as the international solidarity of the working people. All this is revealed in real life conflicts, and not in abstract disputes and reasonings.
The action takes place in a provincial Siberian city against the background of the events of the imperialist war. The February Revolution, the first days of October.
After the overthrow of autocracy in the environment of exiles there is a sharp delimitation. For the Bolsheviks, including Dr. Sapozhkov and his wife, the bourgeois-democratic essence of the February revolution is clear. They consider one of the first, most urgent tasks of ending the war. They know that there will be a fierce struggle for the establishment of the power of the workers and peasants.
The Menshevik Savich and his supporters have a different position. Hiding behind pseudo-patriotic talk, they take the side of those who profited from the war, and make every effort to continue the bloody massacre. This is especially clearly shown in two episodes of the book, which became central in our film.
... To alleviate the suffering of the soldiers, the Bolsheviks transferred the hospital from the old barracks to the restaurant "Eden". However, by order of the military authorities and the city duma, patients are inhumanly discarded, and the “illegally expropriated” restaurant is returned to the owner ...
... Workers warriors led by Communist Kudrov rescue during the ice drift barges with grain and distribute bread to the flood victims. For this, the city authorities accuse the Bolsheviks of stealing military supplies ...
V. Kozhevnikov carefully analyzes the inner world of his heroes. The characters of the characters are written out brightly, expressively. The plot develops dynamically.
In short, the novel has extremely appreciative material for cinematic incarnation. Of course, as with any adaptation, cuts and losses are inevitable. But we, along with scriptwriter A. Antokolsky, sought to be as close as possible to the literary source, to its artistic structure. new zealand online casinos
