For those who are infuriated by people in baggy clothes, dull office suits and lovers of wearing sandals over socks, game makers from Friv2Online have released a mind-blowing retro shooter Fashion Police Squad. We tell in the review whether it is easy to administer fashionable justice.
In fact, I am indifferent to unfashionable people: the choice of style is everyone's business. But it's one thing for me, and quite another for the fashion patrol of the city of Trendopolis, who make sure that its inhabitants are beautiful and do not spoil the mood for others with their lame outfit. By the beginning of the events of the Fashion Police Squad, a real invasion of fashion criminals is taking place in the city, which the main character has to stop.
I won’t say that the friv game’s storyline is capable of intriguing, but it takes on a different one - full of jokes with dialogues in which the setting is wonderfully beaten. The characters discuss fashion trends, figure out whether to trust a stranger when he is wearing a trench coat, signal the appearance of ugly people in the style of police negotiations: “Psh-shh, officer 1373, code 10:31, - Crime against fashion, - angle 135 th Queen (Man in Gray Suit) or MSC.
The developers had enough imagination to create a world that you can believe in. The protagonist wields not weapons, but tools that help criminals become stylish again.
The 1-KRAS-K carbine will color a gray office suit or, on the contrary, draw out all the colors from an acid-green T-shirt, the Sewing Machine will sew baggy clothes at machine-gun speed, and the Belt of Justice will pull up the pants hanging from the back of the vaper. Sock gnomes will steal socks from a tourist-onlooker, and the RazNARYADka cannon will slightly cool the ardor of a too hot party-goer. A special technique is a powerful slap in the face, which will instantly put the layman who has forgotten about good taste in his place.
What is especially nice, the barrels not only look stylish, but also feel cool. The carbine shoots with recoil, the sewing machine chirps like a submachine gun, and the belt clicks so that it stuns not only the enemy, but also the player. No blood: when the enemy's health bar is depleted, he transforms into a handsome man, and the voice-over shouts a random phrase like "Awesome!" or "Fashionable!". After a hot shootout, the arena is filled with characters brilliant in every sense, the main character is heading to the next location.
Opponents, however, are not ready to transform on command, so you have to make an effort to instill in them a sense of style. Office hamsters throw their briefcases, women in ill-fitting dresses turn into witches and poison the air around them, and tourists blind with camera flashes. Each enemy is affected by a certain weapon, so you need to constantly switch between guns. This is inconvenient with large concentrations of criminals, but hey - did anyone say that the service of a fashionable police officer is not dangerous and not difficult?
A few more problems are thrown by a specific system of movement around the city. Often our hero, like Tarzan, has to jump between high-rise buildings, clinging to the eaves with a belt, and it’s just that it can be difficult to aim at them. In general, the friv2 game has a lot of vertical gameplay, get ready to press the spacebar often and miss the target no less often due to the not very well thought out location design.
In terms of gameplay, Fashion Police Squad feels too retro. There is old-fashioned shooting without reloading, labyrinth levels, and even sprite enemy models! Such a Doom in a fashionable shell. By the way, there are funny references to Doom - and not only - here: look at the billboards more often.
Now you will not surprise anyone with a classic-style shooter - gamers are fed up with pixel shooters that parasitize on nostalgia. Therefore, friv game developers have to be creative, for example, by releasing a shooter about fashionable law enforcement officers. The idea is original, and the implementation did not let us down, at least Fashion Police Squad boasts good gameplay dynamics. It is safe to say that the project deserves to take a place on the podium.
