Resident Evil: Revelations 2 - Friv Game Overview

Become a member Capcom is now in a quandary: the past few years, Resident Evil has been seriously stormy. The series, which has managed twice in its history to create a practically new genre, rushes now to one or the other, not knowing whether it is “smart or beautiful”. The sixth part showed it perfectly, where the authors got confused and finally made a game of fragments that are not connected stylistically or gameplay at friv website .

While the next numbered part is waiting in the wings, the ground is being tested on spin-offs. Success was achieved Resident Evil: Revelations which found a near perfect balance between strenuous survival and the dynamics of the latter parts. Like any commercially successful venture, the offshoot received a sequel, making the picture of the world even more confusing.

To be continued, the original game used a serial structure to tell the story: instead of the usual chapters, it was divided into episodes, at the beginning of each of which the classic “in previous episodes” was shown, and all ended with a mandatory cliffhanger and “further in Revelations ”. There was no sense in this, except for exclusively stylization. This time, the authors went further and actually used an episodic model.

Unlike the Telltale Friv Games projects, the game was not designed as a series, but only published. At the time of the release of the first episode, the press has already received a full package of missions. Episodes-series came out once a week, and each ended on the most intense, interesting and intriguing moment. In total, the passage takes more than eight hours: after the passage, two bonus pieces are added to the four episodes, which fill important plot holes, but do not fit into the general narration.

And there is something to fill out - the game scenario even at the level of the story line looks confusing.Claire Redfield and Moira Burton (daughter of Barry Burton, hero of the very first RE) abducted by masked people. They find themselves on the island, among monsters and corpses, with bracelets on their hands and the voice of a mysterious woman from the speakers. Instinct says that as long as this woman is alive, no one will get out of the island.

At the same time, another storyline is developing: Moira’s father, hanging out with a weapon, sails to the island to save the little woman. He meets a girl in a white dress that has strange paranormal abilities and asks very much not to leave her alone. Sorry for a small spoiler, but in the final of the first episode it turns out that the two lines are developing with a difference of six months.

Each episode consists of two parts: first, we see events from the point of view of imprisoned girls who break through to freedom, and then follow the trail as a rescue duet, given the walls that collapsed in six months and rotted corpses. Therefore, each location is fully or partially used twice. This way to save a budget looks fun and works great on the atmosphere: Barry sees and comments on all the damage and permutations that you did half an hour ago.

Despite the interesting presentation and a very intriguing start, we should not expect more from the history. This is a typical "Resident Evil" - with stupid villains, strange motivations, sudden betrayals and personal drama somewhere in the past. And of course, every serious moment is supplied with pounds of pathos, inappropriate slowing down of time, salvation at the last second and so on. Looking at the whole story, you begin to think that the film version of Resident Evil is not so bad, because the friv game still does not pretend to be more than a simple second-rate action movie, which frankly rolls into a parody of itself.

All the action takes place on a small island located somewhere near Russia. I would like to shake hands with the developers for attention to trifles: it is unlikely that you will still be able to see so authenticly reproduced wooden huts, stone ovens, and even bars on the windows in the form of “sun”. And the radio programs from the series “get dressed, hang over and go to work” are generally something beyond the limits. The more surprising and funnier, by the way, is the localization: once again, someone without a knowledge of the language was engaged in it, strictly according to the translator. Because in the subtitles the gender of the characters changes, jokes are missed and the meaning of the phrases is completely distorted.

However, excluding individual episodes, the visual line only upsets: the game is very weak technically (even pre-recorded videos look so-so), and the locations are made in a hundred shades of dirty. Around corridors, factories, basements, darkness, dust and other indecency. There is nothing to admire in general - it is necessary to survive.

Heroes (always in pairs) are moving towards their goal. If you played any Resident Evil , starting with the fourth and ending with Revelations, you will not get lost. A level run, a rare shot put, a camera falling on the shoulder in aiming mode are all in stock. As always, there are few patrons, monsters are meanly dodging, and already three or four opponents are a big problem.

Everything is done at a good, average level. Occasionally the friv game pleases with episodes where you can play stealth and clean the level imperceptibly. Sometimes simple puzzles come across, but the usual themes of past parts are mainly exploited: the village full of monsters, in which you need to run from the “boss”, the defense of your partner who opens the door, and other classics. The levels are saturated with action, and the scenes evolve quite dynamically. Complete the picture of half a dozen types of weapons, the same number of types of enemies. All this was already everywhere; real game value lies in the cooperative mode.

No matter how hard I tried, I could not find a single reason why in Revelations 2There is no online multiplayer. You can play together, but only for one device. Yes, if you want to play together, mentally divide the monitor screen into two. Part of the situation is saved by Share Play on PS4: the console provides the ability to simulate the game with one prefix. The person on that end of the wire will suffer slightly from delays and unresponsive management, but this is nothing. Because the cooperative in Revelations 2 is arranged in an interesting way.

Roles are asymmetrically distributed: one player is always the main, the other remains to run errands. Claire is in charge of weapons and modifications, while Moira only fights with one mount and wears a flashlight. It is clear that the only serious task of the second player is to run in time. While for the main shooting Claire is responsible.

But this does not mean that the second player is useless. On the contrary - teamwork is strongly needed. A flashlight in the hands of a fragile girl incinerates enemies, which lowers their protection and stops. This sometimes becomes a serious tactical element. In addition, double-handed melee attacks cause more damage, which is great for saving cartridges. Another nice little thing: only in the light of a flashlight hidden objects are visible. Levels also require interaction - you need to constantly separate, pull over different levers, block doors and so on.

Barry is changing. The girl Natalya cannot even beat with a mount, therefore she does not bear any attacking load at all. But she sees enemies through walls, and also knows how to highlight weak points on the bodies of mutants. And climb through the small holes in the walls.

What is nice, the game is wonderfully passable alone. The computer partner behaves adequately - the light always shines where it is needed, does not suffer much from the attacks of enemies (and is automatically treated, if that). Natalia is particularly striking - she not only knows how to automatically shout: “Beware, invisible!”, But also shows a finger at him, and also corrects the shooting: “Just to the right! Now to the left! Here it is! ”

The problem is that the hardcore gamer in the role of support will be seriously bored: if Moira can still hit the mount, then the game for Natalia turns into depression. But if you use your neighbor as a co-pilot or a living woman of any social status, the system works - the load placed on the shoulders of a person who is not used to gamepads turns out to be just that it was fun and not too difficult. Perhaps this is the reason for the lack of online multiplayer. In this is still more convenient with relatives.

Interesting is the case with bonuses. It’s impossible to talk about their specific content, because the script is completely tied up with spoilers, but, in one way or another, one premium episode is a full-fledged stealth, without the ability to attack. And the management element is added to another, additional goals and restrictions are introduced.

For an experienced player, the cooperative in the “Raid” mode will be much nicer: there everything turns into a race through arenas where you have to kill monsters. The beauty is that this is an honest session multiplayer - everyone chooses a character they are going to develop, accumulates experience points for completing missions, searches for rare types of weapons, improves them. However, the increasing complexity of tasks, the power of monsters and others. The only thing that depresses is the absence of some kind of goal in it.
