Scaffolding is considered a multi-purpose structure. In addition to construction, repair and finishing works, they are used for the restoration of works of art and monuments. They are also very commonly used in the exhibition industry. Therefore, it is not surprising that chimney sweeps also use this type of tools in their work. Every building, regardless of its size and purpose, has a number of installations that require a chimney to function properly. The two main types of chimneys are ventilation and furnace chimneys. The former are present in every building and are responsible for its proper ventilation. The second one, however, is found in facilities where flue gas generating devices are used. These can be central heating stoves, as well as gas stoves for heating water for domestic needs. All chimneys are usually hidden in the walls of the building, and their construction usually runs parallel to the construction of the next floors. Therefore, scaffolding is rarely used at this stage. The situation is completely different with those parts of the chimneys that protrude above the edge of the roof.
The construction and maintenance of chimney elements located above the roof of a building requires not only appropriate knowledge and practice, but also the use of scaffolding that will ensure safe and free access to these structures. This is especially important in the case of buildings with sloping roofs, where the operation of chimneys without scaffolding is almost impossible or even very dangerous. Chimney cleaning operations include, first of all, periodic inspections of flue systems performed by chimney cleaners. They usually do not require access to the roof and can be carried out from the attic level. However, there are times when it is necessary to check the technical condition of the part of the chimney that is located outside the building. That's where scaffolding turns out to be useful and even irreplaceable.What kind of scaffolding should be used to work with the chimney?
In order for the work related to the maintenance or repair of the exterior parts of the chimney system to be carried out efficiently and, above all, safely, it is necessary to ensure that the persons performing them have a sufficiently large level space around the chimneys. In the case of flat roofs, this is not a serious problem. However, when we are dealing with a flat roof, things are not so simple. Classic scaffolding is very versatile, but it has its limitations. That's why chimney scaffolding was invented, designed to work on roofs, especially pitched ones. Thanks to a special assembly system based on lightweight ladders attached to the roof ridge and work platforms with balustrades, it is possible to create a smooth and safe work surface. Due to its construction, chimney scaffolding is used not only for chimney work, but also for roofing, i.e. painting sheet metal roofs or repairing and replacing roofing.
